I'm not totally sure why I decided a 30 day detox would be a good idea but here's how I came to my decision... For a while, I was doing really well with my diet. I was keeping a food log, exercising regularly, and making my beer and chip loving boyfriend eat foods like tofu chili and egg white omelets. I had lost 24 pounds and felt amazing. Then a bit over a year ago, it started to go down hill. I can have a cupcake, it's my birthday. I can have some mini candy bars, it's Halloween (and they're tiny!). I can have a couple cookies, it's your birthday and I'll be good the rest of the week. Then the holidays hit and there was no looking back. 9 months later, more than a handful of lbs gained back, and I think I'm finally ready.
Time to reset.
This blog is my way of sharing my experience, some recipes and information I find, and more importantly, another way to hold myself accountable. It's easy to say on Day 1 that I can go 30 days without ice cream or toast but who knows how I will be feeling about it tomorrow....
The Plan (thank you Talia)
Basically it's the elimination diet: no gluten (wheat), soy, dairy, corn, or peanuts. No beef or pork, no artificial sweeteners or honey, no processed foods, caffeine, or booze. Start each day with some lemon water, end it with dandelion root tea and try to incorporate numerous detox and super foods throughout the day.
The original plan was 2 weeks but after spending an hour with Google, I found so many recipes and ideas, I decided to see if I could go the entire month. Sometimes I think I hate myself, other times I think I just really like to be challenged. Tomato, tomato.
DAY 1
I woke up and checked myself out in the mirror. ugh. My skin is gross, my eyes look tired, my belly looked.. ugh. Despite my appearance, I woke up really excited to start this little journey. I had prepared my food for work the night before and was looking forward to my breakfast of gluten-free oats, light agave nectar, and sliced strawberries. Mmmm. I totally did not realize how long it was going to take to prepare and eat and I ended up being a little late to work. Whoops. (totally worth it..)
By the time I got to work, however, I was STARVING! I was good and waited until my normal snack time to dive into my first snack of the day. 100 calories and 15 minutes later, I was still starving. 30 minutes I had to dip into my emergency snack. Yes, that's right, I always try to have an emergency snack at work. Anyway, 10 cherries and 10 minutes later, I was still hungry! So this was my day - eat and a few minutes later I was hungry. I drank tons of water and caffeine free tea, but I just never felt full. I hope it's like everything else - the first day is the hardest. If it's not, this may turn into a 6 day detox....
try canned tuna and organic mustard (i'd say honey mustard, but it looks like honey is off the list)....i did a month detox and tuna and mustard SAVED me. i also ate a lot of lettuce and veggies with organic hummus. oh and brown rice. these things are all easy to prep and filling. keeping going w/the water, and fyi- an apple in the morning actually gives you more energy than a cup of coffee- not my opinion, its fact.
ReplyDeleteyou can do this girl!! i lost 9 lbs, and felt awesome afterwards. reading your blog actually makes me want to get back on it. thanks for the inspiration!! xo- aubyn
sister, this is dedication! it sucks to have a guy who's such a junk-food junkie (and we know that i love my not-so-nutitious foods too) but my way of coping is by reminding myself of how shitty (pun intended) i'll feel afterwards... the more times i practice saying "no thank you," the better i get at it!
ReplyDeleteyou're a beautiful person. please don't beat yourself up because guess what... in 10 years i have a feeling we'll look back and be like "damn we were hot. why the eff did we hate ourselves so much?!" so not worth it!
my only suggestion for your super hunger would be adding some lean protein and/or fat... like egg whites and/or a small handful of almonds.
and dude. you are FABULOUS.
